Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, Devon Smith (b.1991) better known as Vonnie Quest is an Interdisciplinary Documentary Artist and independent curator. His practice examines the intersections of history, place, personal identity, and memory. Working with various material and mediums, Quest situates his work within the sphere of experimental video. Influenced by Afrofuturism, Science Fiction, and family narrative, he makes things that site the methods of these ideas while building community and offering a transformative experience for his audience. He is also the founder of the Afro-Projection Lab, a microcinema dedicated to screening avant-garde films made by Black filmmakers. Quest is currently based in Durham, NC, and working to obtain his MFA in Studio Art at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
