For The Future Begins Today, Kate Gilbert created a series of artifacts for a fictitious time-travelling fashion designer, Elliotte, who returns to the 1970s from a distant future to launch her new line of prêt-à-porter. These artefacts include: a press release for the launch of Elliotte’s new line, a letter contacting Sylvia Gray about carrying the line in her store,  and a photograph featuring Elliotte dressed in one of her creations. Along with a dress created by Elliotte that blends the styles of many eras, these artefacts have been embedded into the museum’s collection as evidence of Elliotte’s success in bringing the future to the past.
