Ash Smith is a director, designer and new media artist who grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina and currently resides in a seaside city known for its innovative biotech hubs, military zones, and techno-animistic possibilities. Ash choreographs site-specific performances, designs interactive experiences, and writes stories for film, stage, and improvisational play that blur the distinction between art & life, fact & fiction, and nature & technology. These entanglements welcome error, spontaneity, chance, vertigo, cannibalism, and parasitic interventions and may use humor, corporate strategy, anarchy, science, magic, engineering, design, pop culture and/or speculation to re-imagine the future of self, place, and the dreaming collective. How might these shared futures shape urbanism, labor, and animal-human-environmental assemblages? Ash also plays music in a few bands and loves to parallel park.

During their residency at Elsewhere, Smith created 11½ Spells for Our Future Selves.
